Total Joint Replacement in LA County
Knee & Hip Replacements from Trusted Orthopaedic Team
When physical therapy, medication, and other conservative measures are proved ineffective in treating joint pain, patients may choose to undergo a total joint replacement. USC Arcadia Hospital's Hip and Knee Center in LA County is a dedicated program within the hospital that offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment of arthritis and joint pain. For patients who experience chronic pain that prevents them from exercising, walking, leisure activities, or even working, joint replacement could be what they need to regain independence and resume their day-to-day life.
Joint Replacement Education
A total joint replacement is a big surgery and one you should only agree to after learning what it involves and what it can accomplish. We educate our patients before their surgery and provide them with a 100-page guidebook about joint replacement and its aftermath. This guide includes a list of questions and answers, easy exercises for post-op recovery, instructions on how to heal after surgery, and anything else you need to know to make a complete recovery and return home. We also encourage patients to talk to the staff so they can address any concerns or anxieties.
Team Approach to Joint Replacement
We have developed a unique "team" approach to join treat replacement. Many patients have shown to have an easier time preparing and recovering from joint replacement after talking with others going through a similar experience. Taking that into consideration, we provide our patients with a peer support group. At the start of each week, a new group of patients is scheduled for surgery and are given a chance to meet and speak with each other as they move through each stage of the operation.
In addition to the peer support group, your joint replacement team will include:
- A surgery "coach"
- Orthopaedic surgeons
- Orthopaedic nurses
- Certified physical and occupational therapists
- A discharge planner
- Home care providers
Our joint replacement program has received extremely high marks in patient satisfaction thanks to our incredible support system, the personal attention each patient receives, and the thorough education we provide patients before the procedure. With the expertise available at USC Arcadia Hospital, there is no need to suffer from joint problems. We know that recovery from joint problems is a journey, and we will fully support you every step of the way.
