One of the most renowned features of USC Arcadia Hospital is our state-of-the-art, full-service emergency department. The Hollfelder Emergency Care Center opened its doors in 2012 thanks to the generous contributions of Tom and Bea Hollfelder. This new facility greatly improved upon our already impressive emergency care services, expanding the main emergency department from 16 beds to 26 beds. The facility is staffed around the clock and outfitted with 26 private rooms and advanced technology, equipping us for virtually any situation.
Fast Acting Team, Newest Technologies
Every minute counts in an emergency, our staff knows this and has been trained in emergency procedures so that they can make fast decisions and quickly provide patients with the services they need. A fast acting team means very little, however, if the technical equipment can't keep up with them. A critical medical situation cannot wait, so we have installed state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment in the emergency department where imaging studies can be processed quickly and treatment administered faster.
The Emergency Department is also the entry point to our Stroke Program. USC Arcadia Hospital holds a Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification from independent rating agency DNV GL and is designated by Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (LAC/EMS) as one of 18 comprehensive stroke centers serving the region. This expertise allows victims of stroke, who require immediate attention, to receive rapid care which greatly improves the opportunity for a successful patient outcome.
USC Arcadia Hospital is also designated by LAC/EMS as a dedicated heart attack, or STEMI, receiving center for diagnosing and quickly treating heart attack patients. Our highly qualified Chest Pain Team is available 24 hours a day to evaluate and relieve chest pain quickly. Whether you are having a heart attack or chest pain, our team is ready to perform a thorough examination and help you make critical changes that give patients a second chance at life.
Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP)
At USC Arcadia Hospital, we know the emergency care needs of children are different from adults. Children have a different spectrum of disease, and their smaller bodies require specialized medical procedures and equipment that take into account their size and age.
That’s why USC Arcadia Hospital operates an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) which meets specific standards established by the L.A. County Emergency Medical Services Agency (LAC/EMS) for the care of children age 14 and under.
As an EDAP hospital, USC Arcadia Hospital has physicians and nurses who are trained in both pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric advanced life support and use pediatric-sized equipment to address children’s unique medical needs.
In addition, when children are sick or in pain, they may not express their concerns as easily as adults. Our USC Arcadia Hospital emergency department team knows from training and experience that children in need of medical care do better when taken care of by caregivers who are trained to attend to both a child’s physical and emotional needs.
Providing Safe Care for COVID-19 Patients
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Los Angeles County Department of Health continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak closely and provide hospitals with regular updates. The USC Arcadia Hospital team is also observing the situation in the San Gabriel Valley and is prepared to care for COVID-19 patients around the clock.
