Cardiac Rehabilitation in Southern California
USC Arcadia Hospital's Proven Program for Fighting Heart Disease
Heart disease may be one of the world's most prevalent killers, but it can be fought against with lifestyle changes and improvements in your overall health. USC Arcadia Hospital is proud to offer residents of LA County and the surrounding area access to our comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program. In this proven heart health program, participants work under the supervision of medical professionals to improve physical fitness and develop healthy habits that reduce the risk of heart disease and benefit their overall well-being.
Do I Need Cardiac Rehab?
Cardiac rehab is primarily for two types of patients: those have a heart condition, and those that are at a high risk of heart disease. If you have had cardiac surgery in the past, you will likely benefit from cardiac rehab. While highly beneficial and potentially lifesaving, surgery is not a long-term solution for heart-disease. Without working to change diet and exercise habits, there is nothing to stop your cardiovascular system from weakening again and causing more damage.
You should discuss cardiac rehab with your primary care provider if you have:
- Ever had a heart attack
- Have been diagnosed with a heart condition
- Undergone cardiac surgery
- Are consistently warned by your doctor that you have high blood pressure and other cardiac risk factors
We Work to Help You Reach Your Goals
Choosing to undergo cardiac rehab is ultimately a personal choice. Our team respects that making an effort to improve your health is your decision, and works to help you achieve your goals, rather than forcing participants to work towards a constructed "ideal fitness level." Your rehab trainer will be happy to help you figure out what your goals are, and together you can work towards a healthier heart in a program that you feel is truly about you and your needs.
A physician referral is required to participate in cardiac rehab. Discuss the option with your primary care provider or cardiologist and find out if they believe it will be beneficial. This is an outpatient service, meaning you do not need to be admitted to the hospital to participate. The entire program usually lasts twelve weeks with exercise and educational programs occurring three times a week. Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend to offer support.
USC Arcadia Hospital's Rehab hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 12:30 pm. An unmonitored maintenance program is available to participants once they've finished the 12-week rehab.
