Newsweek Magazine Honors Methodist Hospital Acute Rehabilitation As One of Nation's Best Programs
Arcadia, California – The USC Arcadia Hospital Rehabilitation Department recently received a tremendous honor when the department was named to Newsweek magazine’s list of America’s Best Physical Rehab Centers for 2021. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
The America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers 2021 list highlights the nation’s top inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) based on quality of care, quality of service, quality of follow-up care and accommodation & amenities. Facilities in the 25 states with the highest number of inpatient rehabilitation facilities – according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) – were part of this study. The rankings feature the top 230 centers nationwide. The awards list can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
“On behalf of our nurses, therapists, and staff who work tirelessly every day to rehabilitate our patients and improve their quality of life, we sincerely appreciate this recognition,” said Raymond Gritton, MD, Medical Director of the USC Arcadia Hospital Acute Rehabilitation Department. “Congratulations to our outstanding team for making this honor possible.”
The evaluation process was comprised of several steps:
- Recommendations from peers: Thousands of medical experts (physicians, therapists, medical doctors, administration & staff working in physical rehabilitation facilities) were invited to an online peer-to-peer survey.
- Quality Score: Participants were also asked to rank the quality of care, quality of service, quality of follow-up care and accommodations & amenities.
- KPI Data Scores: The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes KPI data for physical rehabilitation centers. The KPI data includes 15 different measures.
- The Model Systems and CARF Accreditations: Facilities with these accreditations received a bonus to their overall score.
The rehabilitation program at USC Arcadia Hospital provides clinical services to patients who have lost a level of their independence from neurological and orthopedic conditions, along with severe debilitation from medical illness. Acute rehabilitation care at USC Arcadia Hospital takes place in a 30-bed inpatient unit and offers a unique opportunity for patients to optimize their functionality through an intensive interdisciplinary therapeutic program under the oversight of a Board Certified Rehabilitation Physician.
The interdisciplinary team members include the Rehabilitation Physician, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Rehabilitation Nurses, Psychologist, Social Worker, Rehabilitation Liaison, Clinical Care Coordinator, and the Program Director. All care is integrated among disciplines along with carryover training from shift to shift. This optimizes the patient’s rehabilitation opportunity as “rehab” is taking place throughout the day and evening seven days a week. Family and caregivers are involved early in the process to assure a confident and safe transition back home. Acute Rehabilitation services at Methodist Hospital are managed by Kindred Hospital Rehabilitation Services under the direction of hospital administration.
